Description

1798 Large Eagle Dollar, VF35
Pointed 9, Wide Date, B-19, BB-106
Late Die State

1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Wide Date, 4 Lines, B-19, BB-106, R.5, VF35 PCGS. Ex: The Peh Family Collection. Bowers Die State IV. The bisecting die crack from E in LIBERTY to the rim below 1 in the date is bold, with a small lump developing from die chipping along the die crack between the dentils and 1. Despite the late die state, this Choice VF example is well-struck and boldly defined for the grade. The 1798 BB-106 is a scarce variety with a population that is probably in the range of 80 to 140 coins in all grades combined. Pewter-gray toning lightens to silver-gray at points of wear and the few light marks and abrasions are no more than what might be expected for the assigned grade.
From The Peh Family Collection.
