1798 Large Eagle Dollar, Wide Date, XF40
B-15, BB-112, Pointed 9
1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Wide Date, B-15, BB-112, R.3,
XF40 NGC. Bowers Die State III. Star 13 is lapped. This is a
slightly more elusive variety to obtain for the year. Bowers'
Silver Dollar Encyclopedia (2013) suggests 250 to 450 pieces
may survive, mostly in VF to XF condition. The centers are
incompletely defined, as struck, but blending is minor and detail
strong on the right-hand stars, shield, wings, and lower olive
leaves. Antique gray patina dominates each side, although
