Description

1798 Heraldic Eagle Dollar, Sharp XF40
Pointed 9, B-15, BB-112

1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Wide Date, B-15, BB-112, R.3, XF40 PCGS. Ex: Miller. Bowers Die State III. The spindly appearance of star 13 indicates the obverse die was lapped, as does weakness at the outer loop of the curl near 1 in the date. Deep and mottled brown toning covers the glossy fields, contrasting nicely with the tan figure of Liberty and the lightly toned raised reverse elements. Hints of luster remains beneath the original patina. The BB-112 is a moderately available variety and it is often a preferred selection for the Wide Date type. This sharp example is smooth and appealing for the grade, with virtually mark-free surfaces.
