Description

1798 Small Eagle Dollar, XF45
13 Stars, B-1, BB-82

1798 $1 Small Eagle, 13 Stars, B-1, BB-82, R.3, XF45 PCGS. Bowers Die State III. There are only two 1798 Small Eagle dollar die marriages, and due to different star counts, each is separately listed in the Guide Book. Although 1798 Large Eagle dollars appear frequently at auction, the Small Eagle BB-82 and its BB-81 predecessor are scarce. The present coin is sharper than most survivors, and shows ample hints of luster in the curls and wings. No marks are of any notice. A small flan flake (on the dentils near the D in UNITED) provides an identifier.
From The Poughkeepsie Collection.
