Scarce Variety, Late Die State
1799 $1 7x6 Stars, B-19, BB-155, R.5 -- Cleaned -- PCGS Genuine.
AU Details. Ex: The Peh Family Collection. Bowers Die State IV.
The scarce B-19, BB-155 die pair is a key 1799 variety. Only 70 to
110 pieces are thought to survive in all grades combined according
to the Bowers' Encyclopedia and only a few About
Uncirculated and Mint State examples survive. This lightly cleaned
coin displays only minor signs of an old cleaning and has toned in
pleasing shades of blue-gray colors that deepen at the borders.
High-point circulation wear exists but does not exceed the
parameters for About Uncirculated sharpness. A loupe reveals a few
short adjustment marks at the upper-left shield but the fields are
generally smooth and attractive. The borders are strong and the
central devices are well-defined. This is the late die state, with
several die cracks emerging from obverse stars 1 to 3.From The Peh Family Collection.
