1799 $1 8x5 Stars, B-23, BB-159, R.3, VF25 PCGS. Bowers Die State II. The market value of BB-159 in all conditions is driven by the 8x5 obverse star arrangement, the only 1799 dollar with the configuration and thus in strong demand by type collectors. This example is sharp for the grade with pleasing old-time toning that displays golden-gray centers surrounded by deep, bluish-gray margins. Abrasions consist of a few light lines hidden in the patina with generally smooth fields and no adjustment marks. An attractive early dollar in a popular collector grade, housed in an old green label holder.
