Description

1800 Dollar, AU55, B-16
A Scarce High Grade Example

1800 $1 AU55 NGC. B-16, BB-187, R.2. Die State V. This final die state is characterized by new flaws between the ES in STATES, and a new obverse die crack below the 800 in the date. While the B-16 is tied with the B-13 as the most plentiful variety of the year, it is seldom encountered in high grades. This is a bright, untoned coin that is well struck throughout and well centered with even denticles around the peripheries. A thin layer of mint luster can be seen over each side. Behind Liberty's head are a few short grease stains that were struck into the coin at the time of manufacture.(Registry values: N2998)
