1801 $1 AU55 NGC. B-3, BB-213. R.3. Die State II. All four digits of the date on this coin can be seen incused and reversed under ES and O of STATES OF on the reverse. Sometime in the middle of its life, the reverse die, which was used only to strike this die marriage, clashed with the obverse die, producing the strong effects seen on this piece. The surfaces are bright and silvery with no overly distracting abrasions noted.
