Description
1802/1 Draped Bust Dollar, VF30
Wide Date, B-2, BB-233
1802/1 $1 Wide Date, B-2, BB-233, R.4, VF30 PCGS. Bowers Die
State I. A wide gap between 1 and 8 in the date accounts for the
Wide Date descriptor for this moderately scarce overdate. Perhaps
as few as 100 to 175 pieces survive in all grades, most of which
are in the lower circulated grades. This solid midgrade example
easily justifies its VF30 designation, with richly toned iridescent
fields and smoothly worn silver-gray patina on the high points.
Original surfaces show only one or two minor contacts -- a
remarkable indication of quality for its assigned grade.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24XC, Variety PCGS# 40093, Base PCGS# 6899, Greysheet# 199120)
