1803 $1 Large 3 XF40 PCGS. B-6, BB-255, R.2.
Bowers-Borckardt Die State II. A rich blanket of cream-gray toning
fails to conceal the glimpses of bright luster that emerge from the
letters, stars, and other design elements. Surprisingly unabraded
despite a small rim nick above the second S in STATES. B-6, the
sole Large 3 die variety, presumably constituted the early 1804
delivery that decades later led the U.S. Mint to strike novodel
