Large Eagle, Pointed 9, 10 Arrows
1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, 10 Arrows, 4 Lines, B-13,
BB-108, R.2, AU55 PCGS. Bowers Die State IV. The obverse die
was used for early states of BB-108, then for BB-109, and reunited
with this reverse for late states of BB-108. While the variety is
rather plentiful, Choice AU or finer examples are elusive and the
present piece ranks among the 10 finest to appear in recent
auctions. Slight central weakness is noted on this imperfectly
centered example that retains considerable mint luster. The satin
surfaces are mostly gold and gray, with splashes of deep rose and
