    Endearing 1795 13 Leaves Ten Dollar AU53

1795 $10 13 Leaves AU53 PCGS. Breen-6830, B. 1-A, Taraszka-1, R.3. The most frequently seen variety of the year, which is distinguished by a minute extension at the top left of the upper left of the serif of the Y in LIBERTY. While far from the scarcest early gold issue, the enduring popularity of Robert Scot's Small Eagle design assures the 1795 Ten Dollar a place in the pantheon of U.S. numismatics. The minimally circulated example offered here is generally well struck and each side is accented in pleasing reddish patina. We note a few shallow scratches here and there over both sides, the most noticeable of which are situated in front of the portrait, and several pinpoint marks pepper the fields. However, the coin's vibrant luster and original color definitely carry the day on this attractive early Eagle.(#8551) (Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 25ZU, PCGS# 8551)
