    Description

1795 13 Leaves Eagle, Choice XF
    BD-2, CAC Approved

1795 $10 13 Leaves, BD-2, High R.4, XF45 PCGS. CAC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/d, as often seen, with no peripheral obverse cracks. The reverse is lapped. BD-2 is one of the two most plentiful 1795 eagle varieties, although with an estimated population of only 90 to 110 pieces, it remains scarce in all grades. In Early U.S. Gold Coin Varieties, John Dannreuther writes of this issue:

"As noted under BD-1, this variety is a little more than twice as scarce as that variety, the most available 1795 eagle, but this is still considered the other available variety of this date and type. In other series, a coin with a hundred or so examples known would be considered quite rare."

This Choice XF example is CAC endorsed. Luster clings to the peripheral fields and design recesses amid bright straw-gold hues. Strike weakness in the centers is the result of planchet filing at the mint, and remnants of the adjustment marks are still visible on the eagle's breast. However, wear is light. Visual appeal is outstanding for the grade, hence the CAC green label.
