AU Details 1795 Ten Dollar
13 Leaves, Rare BD-5 Marriage

1795 $10 13 Leaves--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. Breen-6830, Taraszka-5, BD-5, R.5. Bass-Dannreuther Die State e/c. The rarest die marriage for the Small Eagle type, aside from the famous 9 Leaves BD-3 variety. BD-1 and (less often) BD-2 are the usually seen 1795 ten dollar varieties.
The present piece has bright luster across the stars, wings, hair, and legends. The eagle's breast shows slight wear, but the design is otherwise bold save for some softness on the right-side dentils. The honey-gold surfaces are lightly hairlined, and the right obverse field has a couple of faded, inconspicuous pinscratches. Minor adjustment marks are present on the obverse dentils, and, to a much lesser extent, are concealed in the hair. A prize for the alert numismatist who seeks additional value (in the form of a much better die variety) from a type purchase.(Registry values: P5)
