Attractive 1795 13 Leaves Ten Dollar
Taraszka-1, BD-1, AU Details

1795 $10 13 Leaves--Improperly Cleaned--NGC. AU Details. Breen-6830, Taraszka-1, BD-1, High R.3. Attributed by star 11 being close to the serif of Y in LIBERTY, the tip of 5 in the date overlapping the bust, and the leaf virtually touches the U in UNITED. This is the more available of the five 1795 varieties and thus popular as a type coin.
Excellent definition is apparent on the design elements of this AU details example, including Liberty's hair strands and drapery and the eagle's wing plumage. Its yellow-gold surfaces display traces of luster in the recessed areas, and minute "blisters" at the margins point to as-made die rust. Light hairlines show under magnification, and faint pinscratch-like marks on Liberty's portrait are visible when examined with a loupe. Parts of the cheek and neck appear to have been smoothed or lightly polished in an attempt to remove these. Some light adjustment marks are visible at the lower right reverse margin. All in all, this is an attractive example for a large, heavy gold coin that saw brief circulation, and as such will fit comfortably in a high-grade circulated type set.(Registry values: P5)
