Borderline Uncirculated 1797 Eagle
1797 $10 Large Eagle AU58 NGC. Breen-6834, B. 2-C, Taraszka-12, R.4. The 1797 is a transitional date for early eagles, since the Heraldic Eagle reverse was implemented after Breen 1-A was coined. The 1797 is also a better date within the Heraldic Eagle type, since only the 1798 and 1804 are tougher to find. This crisply struck example has a clean appearance with no obvious marks. Die cracks through the final 7 in the date and the C in AMERICA identify the dies. Luster dominates the borders, the eagle and clouds, and the recesses of Liberty's hair. Slight friction from momentary circulation is encountered on Liberty's shoulder, the hair above the ear, the forehead, and the highpoints of the cap. Minor adjustment marks, as produced, are relegated to the right obverse rim.(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 25ZY, PCGS# 8559)Weight: 17.50 grams
