Description
1797 Large Eagle Ten Dollar, AU Details
BD-4, Early Reverse Die State
1797 $10 Large Eagle, BD-4, High R.4 -- Cleaned -- PCGS Genuine.
AU Details. Bass-Dannreuther Die State d/a, lacking the radial
reverse die cracks at R and C in AMERICA, as well as the short die
crack that connects the eagle's tail to the edge. The obverse is in
its late die state with merged cracks at 7 in the date. Satiny
sun-gold luster remains on surfaces that are glossy and lightly
hairlined from a past cleaning. The BD-4 variety is easily
identified by its two floating arrowheads and its distinctively
styled eagle that is different than the eagle motifs employed on
the other 1797 Large Eagle varieties. The eye appeal of this
example with About Uncirculated sharpness is enhanced by its
partially reflective fields and only minor small marks and wispy
hairlining.
