Description

Colorful Uncirculated 1797 Large Eagle Ten Dollar

1797 $10 Large Eagle MS 61 PCGS. B. 2-B, High R.4. The first year of the Heraldic Eagle reverse, the 1797 eagle is a more difficult issue to locate in all grades than the 1799, 1801, and 1803. Unlike many extant representatives of this issue, this coin shows a well balanced appearance with attractive features on both sides. The surfaces are nicely defined and moderately lustrous beneath rich orange and copper-gold coloration. A few well concealed abrasions, as well as a pair of alloy spots in the obverse field, seem to account for the grade, but the overall eye appeal is quite pleasing.
