Description

1798/7 Draped Bust Ten, VF30
BD-1, High R.4. Overdated Early Gold.

1798/7 $10 9x4 Stars VF30 PCGS. BD-1, High R.4. Surprising remnants of mint luster and prooflikeness appear at the margins of this vibrant, orange-gold eagle, despite some wear and a few likely abuses along the way. The coin has detail on the devices of a coin at least 15 points higher than the assigned grade, which was likely influenced by some central granularity and discoloration near a few obverse stars.

The 9x4 Stars configuration is more common than its 7x6 counterpart, yet the BD-1 variety is scarce in its own right. The Bass-Dannreuther reference estimates not more than 80 to 100 pieces survive in all grades. While this example has some minor issues, the eye appeal and the detailed devices make it an attractive candidate for any collection. Population: 2 in 30, 29 finer (3/14).
