    Description

    1799 BD-10 Eagle, AU50
Large Obverse Stars, Ideal Type Coin

1799 $10 Large Obverse Stars, BD-10, R.3, AU50 PCGS Secure. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a, without any die cracks or clash marks. A total of 10 die pairs were used to strike the 1799-dated eagles, comprised of eight Small Stars variants and two Large Stars varieties. BD-10 has the lowest berry positioned over the right foot of (AMERIC)A. Examples are among the most available of all early eagles, making them desirable for type purposes. The reverse die was clearly well-made, employed through 1801 to strike all 1800 eagles and the 1801 BD-1 coins.

Bright yellow-gold surfaces retain luster in the recesses of the razor-sharp relief elements. The wing, neck, and tailfeathers show remarkably complete definition. High-point rub is virtually imperceptible without close inspection. Light marks are scattered over each side, with a thin pinscratch in the right obverse field in front of Liberty's chin. (NGC ID# 2625, Variety PCGS# 45723, Base PCGS# 8562)
