    Description

    1799 Ten Dollar, Choice XF
    BD-10, Large Obverse Stars
    Popular 18th Century Type Coin

1799 $10 Large Obverse Stars, BD-10, R.3, XF45 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a. Free of cracks or clash marks. Ten die varieties are known for the extensively produced 1799 eagle: eight with Small Obverse Stars and two with Large Obverse Stars. BD-10, the final die pair, features the latter star size and is not only the most accessible variety for the date, but it is also one of the most frequently encountered among all early eagles, surpassed only by the 1801 BD-2. With several hundred coins known, BD-10 is often the target of type collectors. An 18th-century date heightens its appeal.

An even layer of rub over the design high points and scattered abrasions are suggestive of a brief time spent in circulation. Yet, much detail remains on the stars, curls, and feathers (wing, neck, and tail). Orange-gold color dominates, with olive accents in the recessed areas.
