Description

1799 Large Stars Ten, VF25 PCGS, BD-10
Only Two Large Stars Varieties

1799 $10 Large Stars Obverse VF25 PCGS. BD-10, R.3. One of only two Large Stars varieties of the 1799 gold eagle, and easily the more common of the two. A leaf tip on the reverse is connected to the lower right foot of I in AMERICA, identifying this piece as an example of B-10 rather than B-9 (the other Large Stars die pair). Typically worn for the grade, this green-gold coin shows a number of small blemishes on each side, but a magnifier will be needed to see most of them. Minimal verdigris nestles near a few of the peripheral devices. For VF type purposes on an early eagle, this piece would be an ideal candidate, especially if the 1799 date is desired.
