Description

Early State 1800 BD-1 Eagle, AU Details

1800 $10 --Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. Breen-6842, Taraszka-23, BD-1, High R.3. The only die marriage for the issue. The obverse is cracked through the tops of LIBERTY with a branch to the border over B, and from the border to the cap, while the reverse has clash marks over STAT. The reverse die was used in 1799, 1800, and 1801, and this piece is an early die state of 1800, struck before 1801. Some 1800 eagles were actually struck after those dated 1801.
Both sides have green-gold surfaces with splashes of orange toning, and they are somewhat brighter than normal. However, the coin presents excellent eye appeal despite its challenges.(Registry values: P2)
