    Description

Low Mintage 1800 Ten Dollar Rarity, MS 63 PCGS

1800 $10 MS 63 PCGS. B. 1-A, the only known dies, R.4. This low mintage (5,999 pieces) eagle is one of the more elusive issues in the Capped Bust Right ten dollar series. It is much more difficult to locate than the 1795, 1797 Heraldic Eagle, 1799, 1801, and 1803 issues and is marginally scarcer than both the 1796 and 1804. If one were lucky enough to locate an 1800 eagle in today's market, it would most likely grade either XF or AU. A low grade Uncirculated survivor should be considered quite a find, and the present Select BU example is clearly in the field of the most steadfast bidder.
This is a remarkably attractive coin for the grade that combines a uniformly frosted reverse with a modestly prooflike obverse. The few wispy, grade-defining abrasions fade into insignificance alongside this coin's razor sharp strike and bold definition. The surfaces alternate between yellow-gold and green-gold coloration as the coin rotates beneath a light. An important piece that should elicit strong bids from attentive gold collectors. Population: 5 in 63, only 2 finer (1/00). (NGC ID# BFYT, PCGS# 8563)

    Weight: 17.50 grams

    Metal: 91.67% Gold, 8.33% Copper
