    Description

    1801 BD-2 Eagle, AU50
    Perfect Dies

1801 $10 AU50 PCGS. BD-2, R.2. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a, with perfect obverse and reverse dies. This is the commonest early eagle variety of the entire series spanning 10 years from 1795 to 1804. Dannreuther estimates that 600 to 800 examples survive from this die pair. Like the 1799 BD-10, there are only two recorded die states for this variety.

Housed in a green-label PCGS holder, this pleasing AU specimen has distinctive green overtones on its reflective yellow-gold surfaces with minimal marks on each side consistent with the grade. A small scrape appears in the left obverse field between the hair and star 4.(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 2627, PCGS# 8564)
