Description

1801 Heraldic Eagle Ten, MS61
BD-2, Mint State Early Type Coin

1801 $10 BD-2, R.2, MS61 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State "c/c," as usually seen with parallel vertical lines in Liberty's cap, apparently created when a bolt or other grooved hard metal object was struck into the obverse die. The effect is less conspicuous than on the "Spiked Chin" 1804 half cent of similar origin, and Dannreuther fails to take notice of the vertical lines in his standard reference on the early gold series. Luster fills the borders and devices of this lightly abraded butter-gold Heraldic Eagle ten. The strike is good, though faint roller or adjustment marks (as issued) are apparent near the left (facing) wingtip.
