1801 $10 BD-2, R.2, MS61 NGC....
Description
1801 Draped Bust Eagle, MS61
BD-2, Ideal Type Coin
1801 $10 BD-2, R.2, MS61 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State
a/a, without clash marks or vertical lines in the cap. Bright
luster accompanies frosty design elements of this antique-gold MS61
Heraldic Eagle type coin. The strike is fairly sharp, although a
few obverse stars are incomplete. Only incidental marks emerge
beneath a loupe. More often than not, BD-2 is found with mysterious
vertical lines on Liberty's cap above the fold, though they are not
seen on the present lot. Intermediate die state examples show clash
marks, but this early ten dollar piece appears to have been struck
from pristine dies. As such, it represents the design as intended
by the coiner. From The Texas Republic Ranch Collection.
