Description
Charming 1801 Eagle, BD-2, XF Sharpness
1801 $10 --Damaged, Improperly Cleaned--NCS. XF Details. Breen-6843, Taraszka-25, BD-2, R.2. The obverse is easily identified because stars 8 and 13 are close to Liberty. Only two varieties for 1801 are known, and this reverse die was used to strike BD-2 in 1801 and then BD-3 in 1803. On this reverse, the top of the eagle's beak nearly touches a star below its point. Lovely orange-gold patina embraces the surfaces of this appealing specimen. The obverse stars are soft, as typically seen, but the rest of the details are sharp. Myriad abrasions on the obverse account for the damaged moniker, although the reverse is remarkably clean. BD-2 is significantly more available than its BD-1 counterpart and would make a perfect choice for a collector.(Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2627, PCGS# 8564, GSID# 9348)
