1801 BD-2 Eagle, Unc Details

1801 $10 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. Unc. BD-2, R.2. This is the usual variety encountered for 1801 eagles, and it is the most plentiful variety of the early eagles struck from 1795 to 1804. It is the variety chosen more often for type collections than any other, due to its availability. The usual die state with spines in Liberty's cap from die damage that was likely caused when a small set screw fell from the press and landed on the die as a coin was struck. This example has frosty peripheral luster with cleaning lines that are most obvious on the obverse. Minuscule obverse rim nicks are noted at 12:30.(Registry values: P1)
