    Description

    Outstanding 1801 Eagle, BD-2, MS62

1801 $10 MS62 NGC. Breen-6843, Taraszka-25, BD-2, R.2. The attribution is not difficult, since there are only two obverses known for this year, and on the BD-2 variety star 1 is considerably farther from the lowest hair curl. Star 8 is close to the cap, and star 13 nearly touches the bust. For such a large gold coin the surfaces, at least to the naked eye, are remarkably free of abrasions, large or small. Indeed, even a loupe reveals only the expected faint ticks and abrasions. Neither the shallow mark in the right obverse field before Liberty's nose nor a couple of scrapes on the cheek can be considered significant. Radiant luster proceeds forth from both sides of this bright greenish-gold coin, unimpeded by patina.
While this issue has seen a few dozen coins certified in this grade at NGC, and about an equal number finer, there is no doubt that this specimen will become the cornerstone of a fine numismatic collection.(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 2627, PCGS# 8564)
