    Description

1803 Eagle, BD-3, Mint State Sharpness
    Excellent Eye Appeal

1803 $10 Small Stars Reverse -- Obverse Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. Unc. BD-3, R.4. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/d. The BD-3 obverse was the sole die used for all six known varieties of 1803 eagle, while the reverse die is a carryover from 1801, showing the E in STATES almost entirely left of the space between clouds. Despite the grading caveat, this is a coin with excellent eye appeal. Bold clashing appears on both sides, with stripes from the shield nestling in Liberty's hair and clash marks from some of the angular design elements of the obverse appearing above and on either side of the shield on the reverse. Deep reddish-orange color and few mentionable marks make along with the overall good level of detail make this an excellent potential acquisition for series specialists.
