1804 $10 Crosslet 4, BD-1, High R.4, AU53 NGC.
Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/b. The 1804 is the final date of the
large-diameter ten dollar series. From a tiny business mintage of
3,757 pieces, only one variety is known, BD-1 with a Crosslet 4. A
few Plain 4 1804 BD-2 novodel proofs were struck decades later, for
inclusion in presentation sets to foreign leaders. BD-1 is very
scarce, but within the reach of advanced early gold collectors.
This example has semiprooflike olive-gold fields and orange-gold
high points. Light roller marks (as made) cross the bust, but
post-strike abrasions of any notice are confined to two thin marks
between the ME in AMERICA.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# BFYU, Variety PCGS# 45741, Base PCGS# 8566, Greysheet# 393220)
