    Description

Condition Census V-1 Half Dime, Pleasing AU55

1794 H10C AU55 NGC. V-1, LM-1, R.6. The V-1 is the rarest of the four known die marriages of this premier Half Dime delivery. Only 7,756 pieces were produced, an unusually low number of strikes per die pair, due primarily to forging problems in the early mint which led to premature die cracks and breakage. This is undoubtedly one of the finest examples known of the variety with a notable Condition Census piece listed in the LM reference in About Uncirculated in a 1990 Stack's auction. The obverse striking details on this example are quite strong with some weakness noted on the reverse over the eagle's breast and the top of the right (facing) wing. Richly toned over each side with two centuries of speckled, deep gray and green toning and a pronounced undertone of rose. Just the slightest trace of friction is seen over the highpoints of the design. (NGC ID# 22ZT, PCGS# 4250)
