1794 Flowing Hair Half Dime, MS64
    Popular First-Year, V-4, LM-4 Variety

1794 H10C V-4, LM-4, R.4, MS64 PCGS. Although the denomination was authorized by the Mint Act of 1792 -- and indeed, a limited mintage of 1792 half dismes was produced in that year -- the Mint did not deliver any Flowing Hair half dimes until 1795. Some of those coins were struck from 1794-dated dies, with a Guide Book mintage of 7,700 pieces, although the actual number of pieces struck is likely higher based on the number of grading events, as well as the fact that four different die varieties are known for the 1794-dated coins. The present piece represents the LM-4 variety, with the date far from the bust and three inner berries, with no outer berry, under the left (facing) wing. This was the only use of the obverse die, and the third and final use of the reverse die.

An attractive Choice example, the coin displays strong central elements and well-preserved surfaces that show prominent die cracks and clash marks on the obverse. The raw planchet was filed and not all of the file marks were eliminated by strike, where they are still visible at the upper obverse margins. The reverse shows some peripheral weakness of strike, suggesting the dies were misaligned. The coin is largely brilliant and lustrous, where the sharp central strike adds to the considerable eye appeal. Population (all varieties): 11 in 64, 10 finer (2/16). (NGC ID# 22ZT, Variety PCGS# 38584, Base PCGS# 4250)

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
