1794 LM-4 Half Dime, AU Details
America's First Half Dime

1794 H10C V-4, LM-4, R.4 -- Reverse Scratched -- NGC Details. AU. Light-gray surfaces contain minimal highlights of other colors, making for a cohesive and attractive look. Several old scratches exist through the eagle's neck, accounting for NGC's grade assessment. Details are well-formed. The 1794 is the inaugural year of the half dime, and it was one of three silver denominations provisioned in the Mint Act of 1792 that was introduced that year, with the dime and quarter waiting until 1796. Of the four die marriages of the year, LM-1 and 2 are slightly rarer than LM-3 and 4.
