    1795 Half Dime, Toned MS64
    Rare V-3, LM-4 Die Marriage

1795 H10C V-3, LM-4, R.6, MS64 NGC. Of the 10 1795 half dime die marriages, LM-8, -9, and -10 are plentiful, and the earlier seven are rare or very rare. LM-4 is an R.6 variety that is extremely rare in Mint State. This Choice example is in an intermediate die state, as the crack through stars 11-14 has not yet broken away into a cud. The strike is bold on the stars and the portrait but is soft on the eagle's breast and upper-left (facing) wing. The eagle's head is well-defined, and both sides have complete dentils. Satiny fields display olive-gray and amber-gold toning, which also characterizes the satiny relief elements. An outstanding example of this rare die pairing. Census (all varieties included): 35 in 64, 18 finer (2/16). (NGC ID# 22ZV, Variety PCGS# 38588, Base PCGS# 4251)
