    Description

Richly Toned Mint State 1796 Half Dime

1796 H10C MS60 PCGS. V-1, LM-1, R.3. The U.S. Mint began striking silver coins in 1794, using a Flowing Hair obverse design. In 1795, a Draped Bust design was introduced on the silver dollar. Aside from any strikes on usable backdated dies, all silver denominations from the half dime to the dollar struck the Draped Bust type exclusively in 1796. This high grade early silver type coin features deep olive toning on the obverse and blended apple-green and plum-mauve patina across the reverse. The strike is sharp despite slight bluntness on Liberty's shoulder and the eagle's breast. Prolonged examination beneath a strong lens locates a couple of unimportant marks, but none of these affect the grade or are sufficiently prominent to decide a pedigree. Population: 2 in 60, 6 finer (7/06).(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 22ZX, PCGS# 4254)

    Weight: 1.35 grams

    Metal: 89.24% Silver, 10.76% Copper
