Description

    1797 Half Dime, VF30
    V-2, LM-1, 15 Stars

1797 H10C 15 Stars, V-2, LM-1, R.3, VF30 PCGS. The 1797 half dimes are known with three different obverse layouts including 13, 15, and 16 stars. Most numismatic researchers now believe that the 15 Stars coins were struck first, then the 16 Stars coins, and finally the 13 Stars pieces. Like nearly all known examples, this light gray piece has central weakness on both sides, with virtually no detail remaining in the eagle. Examination with a glass reveals that this attractive half dime has minuscule marks on each side. However, this piece is much finer than the typical survivor. (NGC ID# 22ZZ, Variety PCGS# 38597, Base PCGS# 4258)

    Weight: 1.35 grams
