    Description

High Grade 1797 16 Stars Small Eagle Half Dime

1797 H10C 16 Stars.--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. V-4, LM-2, R.4. Reiver state a. Bright silver and lustrous, with no sign of color returning after being cleaned. A few trivial hairlines, expected for the grade, and this coin retains most of the eye appeal a collector demands. Fairly well struck by the dies on most of Liberty, but the area below her ear is weakly defined, as always seen. On the reverse the eagle is clearly outlined, but lacks the feather detail on all but the outer portions of his wings, again diagnostic to this variety and die state. Multiple clash marks are seen on the obverse and reverse, and the minor die cracks to stars seven and eight are present on the obverse, and through the ED of UNITED and with a minor rim break in the dentils over ME of AMERICA. This is the usual die state seen for this variety. Probably within the top ten known for the variety.
