    Description

    1797 16 Stars Half Dime, VG8
    V-4, LM-2, All-Original Surfaces

1797 H10C 16 Stars, V-4, LM-2, R.4, VG8 PCGS. CAC. The placement of the leaf under the first T in STATES distinguishes LM-2 from the slightly scarcer LM-3. Both varieties have a 16 Stars Obverse. The Mint quickly realized after striking these half dimes that it simply could not continue adding stars as states joined the Union. Later in the year it reverted to 13 stars representing the original colonies. Although years of circulation have worn away most of the fine details, this problem-free gray example shows pale reddish color over the high points, and the legends are complete. Two pinscratches are noted on the bust. An all-original Small Eagle Reverse type. Population (both 16 Stars variants): 7 in 8, 64 finer. CAC: 1 in 8, 20 finer (10/16). (NGC ID# 22ZZ, Variety PCGS# 38598, Base PCGS# 4259)

    Weight: 1.35 grams

    Metal: 89.24% Silver, 10.76% Copper
