Description

Splendid 1800 LIBEKTY Half Dime
V-2, LM-3, MS64

1800 H10C LIBEKTY MS64 PCGS. CAC. V-2, LM-3, R.4. The "common" LIBEKTY variety with about 150 pieces known in all grades, but seldom encountered so fine. The other variety V-4, LM-4, remains an R.7 variety, with less than a dozen known. Both varieties have the distinctive broken B punch that looks like a K and gives the variety its name. The reverse of LM-3 has a berry below the right base of the final A, while LM-4 has a berry below the left base of that letter.
This Choice Mint State example is impressive for a sharper-than-average strike that only shows a trace of weakness just left of center on each side. The surfaces are fully lustrous beneath gold, lilac, and iridescent toning. It is an exceptional piece for the connoisseur. Population: 6 in 64, 2 finer (4/09).(Registry values: P5)
