Description

1800 Half Dime, MS61
LIBEKTY, V-2, LM-3

1800 H10C LIBEKTY, V-2, LM-3, R.4, MS61 NGC. 1800 half dimes pose a mixed bag for collectors, with two scarce but collectible varieties (V-1 and V-2), and two extremely rare die marriages (V-3 and V-4). This is a coruscating and minimally abraded example that shows full definition on Liberty's curls and the eagle's wings and shield. Lightly toned overall with hints of silver-gray in design recesses. One tiny spot is west of the O in OF. Although the LIBEKTY variety is unrecorded on the NGC insert, the letter's defective nature is apparent at first glance, since its upper crossbar is absent. An early die state without the buckling near the BUS in PLURIBUS often encountered on this variety.
