    1801 Half Dime, XF40
    V-1, LM-2 Variety, Sharp Strike

1801 H10C XF40 PCGS. V-1, LM-2, R.4. This LM-2 example is struck with an early state of the dies, without the massive cracks and crumbling obverse die that characterize later die states. All 1801 half dimes are scarce, yet the date is not fully appreciated for its scarcity compared to others in the series. This example is glossy and well-struck on both sides of the coin. Vestiges of a full strike are visible in Liberty's hair and especially in and around the eagle's wings on the reverse. The surfaces are glossy and reflective, richly toned with bronzelike hues, apple-green, and golden highlights. Population: 1 in 40, 18 finer (1/14).
From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 2327, PCGS# 4267)
