    Description

    Choice BU 1801 Half Dime

1801 MS 63 Reverse Struck Through at 7 O'Clock V-1, R.4. A scarce early half dime, one of just 27,760 pieces struck, made all the more desirable by the unusually high grade of this coin. Sharply struck in most areas, with excellent breast and wing feathers. There are heavy die clash marks on the right side of the obverse, as usually seen on this variety, and a large die break is noted from the Y in LIBERTY down through the stars, terminating at the bust of Liberty. The underlying mint luster is bright and shows a light accent of peripheral golden-brown and sky-blue patina. On the reverse a piece of unknown foreign matter fell onto the planchet prior to striking and created a sunken area just inside the denticles around 7 o'clock, partially effacing the UN of UNITED. A bright and lustrous example of this scarce early type coin.
