    1805 V-1, LM-1 Half Dime, XF45
    Challenging Final-Year Draped Bust Issue

1805 H10C V-1, LM-1, R.4, XF45 PCGS. A single die pair was used to strike the 1805 mintage of 15,600 half dimes, the final half dime issue until 1829. In general, the 1805 production was carelessly done. The obverse stars and lettering are askew, with two (and possibly three) letter sizes in LIBERTY and the stars irregularly spaced. The date sits high with the 0 and 5 too close together. Poorly struck as an issue, the 1805 seldom exceeds the VF level. This Choice XF example is moderately well-struck in areas, although weak at the bust point and at the opposite field stars, clouds, and wingtip. A few light abrasions are noted on the pleasing golden-gray surfaces, which retain glimpses of mint luster. Population: 6 in 45, 9 finer (11/16).
