    Description

    1805 V-1, LM-1 Half Dime, VF25
Scarce, Final Year of the Design

1805 H10C VF25 PCGS. V-1, LM-1, R.4. LM-1 is the sole die marriage for this challenging early date. A low mintage of just 15,600 pieces was produced, making this the second-rarest Draped Bust half dime behind the ultra-rare 1802 issue. This moderately circulated example is well-detailed for the grade, except for reverse weakness above the eagle's right (facing) wing. The legend, clouds, and field stars are typically soft, as is Liberty's bust truncation on the opposite side of the coin. Attractive, golden-gray toning enhances silver centers. The 1805 Heraldic Eagle issue was the last appearance of a half dime until it resumed in 1829 with the Capped Bust design. Population: 3 in 25, 30 finer (1/14).
From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 232A, PCGS# 4272)
