1794 Flowing Hair Half, O-101a, VF20
1794 50C VF20 PCGS. CAC. O-101a. R.4. First-year 1794
Flowing Hair half dollars are more than 10 times scarcer than their
1795 counterparts based on quantity minted, and many more times
more difficult to find based on collector demand. High-quality,
unfettered examples with nice eye appeal are rare.
Problem-Free, Original Surfaces
This wonderful early half has natural, medium-gray patina with good rims and virtually no abrasions from circulation or handling. There are no Mint-caused distractions such as planchet irregularities or adjustment marks on the coin. Light gray accents enhance the high points of the well-detailed devices. Variety collectors will recognize this as the late die state of Overton-101 with a noticeable reverse die crack extending from the rim through the letter F, then turning upwards toward the last S in STATES. Population: 37 in 20, 95 finer (12/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 24E6, PCGS# 6051)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.
This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
