1795 Flowing Hair Half, Choice VF
O-102, Ideal for the Variety and Type

1795 50C 2 Leaves, O-102, T-26, R.4, VF35 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 4/2. Pale olive-gray surfaces display lilac overtones throughout both sides of this Choice VF Overton-102 (Tompkins-26). Some waviness of the dentils is visible on both sides, as often seen for the variety. Several faint die cracks in the date area indicate a late state of the obverse die, while the reverse shows a middle die state. The centers are bold, with much feather detail present on both wings and some of the eagle's breast and leg feathers still visible. Liberty's hair strands show sharp definition for the grade. The fields and motifs are free of any distracting marks, and are there are no adjustment marks to report. This is an ideal collector-grade example of the O-102 and a Choice representative of the Flowing Hair type.

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
