Description

1795 50C 2 Leaves, O-103a, T-29, R.5, VG10 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 2/3. This is the late die state Overton-103a (Tompkins-29), with a full cud above AME in AMERICA. The advanced die stage contributes to weakness on the right-hand obverse stars and merging of the rim with the letters of the reverse legend. While the full cud variant is not significantly rarer than the early die state of O-103 at this grade level, it is in high demand by variety collectors, who seek both the early and late die states. Stone-gray toning deepens at the edges and frames the raised devices, with scattered small marks and shallow abrasions across the otherwise smoothly worn surfaces. A small Mint-related planchet flaw is seen at 9 o'clock on the obverse rim.
