Description

Near Census 1795 O-104 Half Dollar, XF45

1795 50C 2 Leaves XF45 NGC. O-104, R.4. The obverse has a fine die crack from the border over L, through the tops of IBERTY to star 9 and the border over star 10. A second crack joins stars 10 through 12. The reverse has a fine die crack from the border through the right side of C and another through the right facing wing, similar to the early states of O-103. The M in AMERICA is sharply recut with the entire left side of that letter clearly doubled.
Close to the Condition Census for the variety, this piece probably ranks about seventh finest of the variety. Bright silver-gray surfaces are devoid of significant abrasions, and exhibit nicely defined design elements. Considerable luster is still evident in the fields on both sides, especially in the protected areas near the devices. All of the dentils are complete and bold. Crisscrossing adjustment marks are distributed over the central reverse. Still, a pleasing Choice XF example, ideal for date or type collectors.
Haseltine-26; Beistle 6-Bc; Overton-8; Hilt 18-O; PCGS# 6052; Encyclopedia-4560.
